Causes / triggers

A wide range of drug (e.g. antibiotics, immunisations) and non-drug (e.g. stings, nuts, foods, chemicals) allergens may trigger an anaphylactic reaction.

In general, reactions to drugs tend to be more rapid in onset than non-drug reactions. However, most drug reactions are pharmacological reactions rather than hypersensitivity reactions.

Anaphylaxis can be life-threatening, but effective treatment can lead to favorable outcomes for many individuals.
