Lie patient flat (with or without legs elevated)

• Sitting position may optimise respiratory effort in respiratory distress.
• Lying flat or without leg elevation is helpful for patients with low blood pressure.
• If pregnant lie patient on their left side.

Death can occur within minutes if a patient stands, walks or sits up suddenly.
